Meet BON - The Bowfishers of Nebraska
The excellent location of our RV campground & marina on the Missouri River puts us in the perfect position to enjoy all kinds of different outdoor activities. One of these, in particular, is fishing in that river which we lovingly like to refer to as the "longest lake in the state." The Cottonwood Cove is very familiar with a group of people that specialize in this sport - The Bowfishers of Nebraska. (BON)
What is BON?
Bowfishing, in case you are unfamiliar with this sport, is a method of fishing that uses specialized archery equipment to shoot and retrieve fish. The fish are shot with a barbed arrow that is attached with a special line to a reel mounted on the bow.
BON is made up of a wonderful group of people that are dedicated to protecting, advancing, and preserving the sport of bowfishing and its resources. In addition to getting together to enjoy this sport with each other, they also do their best to encourage others to try it out. BON hosts free programs for youth to explore the challenge and excitement of bowfishing. These programs teach them about the equipment, safety regulations, and techniques.
BON Wild Game Feed Fundraiser
This year's Wild Game Feed is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2019, from 5 pm-midnight inside the Lodge at The Cottonwood Cove. Everyone is invited to bring their own wild game dish to share, which gets you into the event for free. If you don't want to cook, $10 at the door gets you inside to taste all the goodies being shared. Even if "wild game" isn't your thing but you still want to hang out, we'll have our pizza for sale too.
Throughout the evening all sorts of prizes, which have been donated, will be given away by a raffle and through an auction. These prizes include quite a few fishing trip packages, bowfishing gear, an awesome BON quilt, and a lot more. This is always a terrific night full of great people and tons of fun.
