Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at The Cottonwood Cove

St. Patrick's Day falls on a Sunday this year, but we're starting the celebration a day early on Saturday, March 16 at The Cottonwood Cove. Once again the group from Blair Youth Shooting Sports will be hosting a delicious holiday fundraiser in the Lodge and you're all invited!

Dinner & Raffle
Blair Youth Shooting Sports are hosting their annual St. Patrick's Day fundraiser on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from noon-8:00 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door and you not only get a delicious corned beef and cabbage meal but also a ticket for the gun raffle.

This year's raffle winner will be taking home a Ruger 10-22 Rifle. Hopefully, you will come in and stay for a while, but meals are available to go if you're in a hurry and still want to donate to this wonderful organization.

Blair Youth Shooting Sports
This local Blair, Nebraska organization teaches the basics, skills, and safety of Trap and Sporting Clays to young people in grades 6-12. They do their best to promote sportsmanship, academics, and leadership to the teams of youths they work with. This group helps the students discover a fun pastime that can be enjoyed throughout their life.

The Cottonwood Cove is always excited to work with great organizations in our community. Especially ones that encourage people to learn more about the many wonderful outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in this fantastic part of the country.

🍀St. Patrick's Day Fun Facts🍀
Like we said, hopefully you'll stick around for a while when you come in for corned beef and cabbage. Here are a few very interesting facts about St. Patrick's Day that could be terrific conversation starters while you're here hanging out with the gang.

🍀 The real St. Patrick wasn't even Irish! He was born in Britain, kidnapped and taken to Ireland as a slave at age 16, escaped back to his family, but returned to Ireland of his own free will later in life! He went back after being ordained as a priest to try to convert the Irish to Christianity.

🍀 Legend has it that shamrocks were used by St. Patrick as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity. These three-leaf clovers are not just a symbol for the holiday. They are also the national flower of Ireland.

🍀 Legend also says that each leaf of a shamrock has a meaning. 1: Hope, 2: Faith, & 3: Love. Four-leaf clovers are rare, but if you happen to find one, that fourth leaf's meaning is luck! That luck doesn't come easily, though. Your chances of finding a four-leaf clover are about 1 in 10,000!

🍀 Today we don green to celebrate the holiday, but the original color of St. Patrick's Day was actually blue. When the Order of St. Patrick was established in 1783, the color chosen had to stand out from previous orders and dark green was already taken.

🍀 According to traditional Irish folk tales, there are no female leprechauns, only males.
One more fun fact that we've got for you doesn't really have anything to do with St. Patrick's Day, but it is something that we believe everyone would love to know. We currently have a few RV lots left at our Midwest RV Campground on the Missouri River. Demand was so high last year, we went ahead and added even more spots for 2019!

They have already started filling up very quickly though, and we expect the last spots to be snatched up soon. Opening day for the 2019 season at The Cottonwood Cove is Saturday, March 30. After that, there is fun to be had on a daily basis around here. Having your own RV lot keeps you close to all the action.

Of course, the RV life around here isn't for just anyone. Only people that love the gorgeous Nebraska outdoors, boating, fishing, live music, delicious food, incredible drinks, meeting fantastic people and forming life-long friendships!

If that sounds like you or someone you know, have them give Steve a call at (402) 960-1515. He can give you all the details, answer any questions you may have, and even set up a tour for you. We would love to have you join our happy Cottonwood family!
