The Cottonwood Cove - Home of Nebraska's Famous Watermelon!
The signature drink at our RV campground & marina on the Missouri River is a summertime favorite that we bet you've all been missing over the long winter! When you say, "I'll have a Watermelon," at The Cottonwood Cove, everyone around here knows you aren't talking about a slice of melon, but rather the amazing drink our place has become known for.
Even though our vacation destination in the Midwest isn't open for the season yet, we do have lots of weekend events coming up this month at which our Watermelons will be flowing. Just in case you haven't had the pleasure, yet, let us introduce you to this delicious drink.
Home of the Watermelon
In January of 1992, George Rybin, son of the owners of The Cottonwood Cove at the time and the future owner himself, went on a Carribean cruise. He was joined by his then-girlfriend, Sharon Young, who worked at The Cottonwood Cove Marina.
During their trip to the islands, they were introduced to an amazing, knock-you-on-your-a$$ cocktail called the Watermelon. They knew immediately that this irresistible drink would be a hit back home and they were determined to bring it back to the states.
After much persuasion, Sharon sweet-talked the recipe out of the islanders so it could be brought back to share with everyone at The Cottonwood Cove. It was no surprise that the drink was an immediate hit and so very popular, our riverfront bar & restaurant in Nebraska was soon known as the Midwest Home of the Watermelon!
Delicious Drinks & Fantastic Food
One sip of our amazing Watermelon will make you feel like you've traveled to the Carribean! Over the years we've served so many of these cocktails that our bartenders have perfected the recipe and truly made it our own.
In addition to the infamous Watermelon, we've got a fully-stocked bar where you can order just about anything to drink that your heart desires, plus an excellent selection of wines and ice-cold beers to quench your thirst. There's one big bar inside the Lodge, another on the patio outside, and last year's new favorite, a swim-up bar connected to our 21+ pool that can also be accessed from the patio.
To go along with whatever delicious drink you choose, during our regular season the Lodge also serves a full menu of fantastic food to enjoy for lunch or dinner. The menu includes incredible burgers and sandwiches, amazing appetizers, savory salads, and the most delicious pizza in town.
You Don't Have to Wait!
Our 2019 season doesn't officially begin until Saturday, March 30, but you don't have to wait that long for one of our famous Watermelons. We've got quite a few dates in March when the bar will be open for special events.

5 pm-1 am - Going Away Party for Shawn & Amy Thallas (open to the public) with Rustic Gold on stage 7-11 pm. - Saturday, March 9
5 pm-1 am - Spring Fling with Charm School Dropouts on stage 7-11 pm. - Saturday, March 16
Noon-8 pm - Blair Trap St. Paddy's Day Fundraiser - $10 donation at the door for corned beef & cabbage and entry into the gun raffle.
On Friday, March 29 we'll be hosting a Season Opening Party for our members, and then on Saturday, March 30, our official 2019 season begins for everyone! If you can get yourself to The Cottonwood Cove before opening day for a Watermelon, great! If not, we'll be sure to save one for you to enjoy when you do finally get here. They'll be flowing all season long!
