Keep Your RV Cool On Hot Summer Days
One of the perks of RV living is that if you don't like the weather, you can drive someplace more pleasant. Hot, sticky, summer heat isn't always fun, but there are so many exciting things you can do this time of year at The Cottonwood Cove, the hot weather shouldn't force you to move along.
You'll find plenty of fun things to do outside of the RV at our Midwest RV campground & marina on the Missouri River. For the times you plan to be inside the RV, here are a few tips you can use to help keep the cooled off and more comfortable.
Keep It Shaded
Keep shades pulled down on the sunny side of the RV to offset sun exposure. Awnings keep the vehicle shaded and cooler too. The Cottonwood Cove features large lots with directional parking allowing you to place yourself facing the direction that lets in the least sun. You can also face awnings together with your neighbor to create a larger shaded area. Many RV door windows don't have shades, but covering these in some way can help too. You may also want to cover the skylight in the bathroom.
Use Fans
Turning on the ceiling fan will pull the cool air up and circulate it throughout the RV. Portable USB fans are also a great investment. They can be moved around to where you need them most and hold a charge so no batteries are necessary.
Close Off Unused Rooms
Close the AC vents and shut the doors to rooms that you are not using. This will conserve the cold air and concentrate the airflow into the room you're actually in.
Turn Electronics Off
Televisions and other electronic devices heat up while they are on and this heat will fight against what the AC is doing. (With so many wonderful outdoor activities in and around our vacation destination in the Midwest, you really don't need to be inside staring at a screen anyway!)
Avoid using the oven. Plan meals that don't need to be cooked or take advantage of your campsite and grill outside instead. That way all of the heat created will stay outside and you can go back indoors to comfortable temperatures to enjoy your meal.
Keep AC vents Clean
At least once a month make sure that all of the AC vents are clean and free of dirt and debris. These can be vacuumed or washed with soapy water. Be sure to rinse them well and let them dry before reinstalling.
It's wise to service your AC unit annually before hot weather arrives. This can keep it from breaking down when you need it most.
Another way to keep cool while you're at The Cottonwood Cove is to join us in the pool and enjoy a refreshing Watermelon! Hot weather can be a nuisance when you are spending the summer in an RV but the fun in the sun at our RV campground on the Missouri River is definitely worth the trip.
