Summer 2020 is going to have a special appeal to it as everyone will be itching to get out of their homes and enjoy a summer at The Cottonwood Cove. Wow, August already? Time sure flies when you're having fun at The Cottonwood Cove ! That's okay though because we've still got lots of time to have tons of fun at our RV campground & marina on the Missouri River .  A big part of the excitement at our vacation destination in the Midwest is the incredible live music we feature each weekend. August 3 is annually set aside on the calendar as National Watermelon Day. Here at The Cottonwood Cove , we "celebrate" watermelons all season long, but in our case, in liquid form! Our Nebraska bar & restaurant on the Missouri River happens to be the Home of the Watermelon , a refreshing cocktail that is a must-try for anyone age 21+.  Guests at our vacation destination in the Midwest can't seem to get enough of this delicious drink. Of course, the actual melon itself is also a tasty treat to enjoy on a hot summer day. In honor of National Watermelon Day, here are a few fun facts about both the food and our signature cocktail.  Watermelon Fun Facts - It's a fruit... AND a vegetable!?! We don't know about you guys, but we had absolutely no idea that a watermelon is actually classified as a vegetable! It is a member of the same family as cucumbers, pumpkins, and squash. Our riverfront restaurant & bar in Blair, Nebraska , is open Tuesday-Sunday each week and The Cottonwood Cove has something special planned for you every one of those days! With February soon coming to a close, The Cottonwood Cove is only 1 month away from Opening Day 2019! That doesn't mean that we're just going to sit around and wait though. On the contrary, there are quite a few fun events planned throughout March at our Midwest vacation destination and we're looking forward to seeing you at them.  Going Away Party for Shawn & Amy Thallas Saturday, March 2 It's almost time to say goodbye to Shawn & Amy, and if you haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting them, say hello and goodbye at the same time! The Lodge will be open to everyone from 5 pm-1 am with pizza being served from the kitchen and all your favorite drinks flowing from the bar. (Yes, even those famous Watermelons!) From 7-11 pm Rustic Gold will take over the stage and we expect you all to be on the dance floor. Every person has a favorite "go-to" cocktail. If you've ever had the chance to try the signature drink at our RV resort & marina in Nebraska , there's a good chance your favorite is the Watermelon! Haven't had one yet? The Cottonwood Cove is open for our 2018 season, so now is the perfect time to discover this refreshing drink! Home of the Watermelon Way back in January of 1982, George Rybin, son of the owners of The Cottonwood Cove at the time, as well as a future owner himself, went on a Carribean cruise. He was accompanied by his then-girlfriend, Sharon Young, who worked at The Cottonwood Cove Marina.  While visiting the islands, they both fell in love with a delicious, knock-you-on-your-a$$ drink called, you guessed it, the Watermelon.
